13th Founders Symposium

March 22 & 23, 2025

Green Center, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado

Join the Western Interior Paleontological Society for the next Founders Symposium

We’re doing it again –– preparing a fantastic symposium to fulfill your yearning for paleontological wonders! Retrospectives: Celebrating 4 Decades of Paleo Advances will examine key discoveries, new technologies, and revised opinions that span the past 40 years . Those four decades  encompass the Western Interior Paleontological Society’s entire existence, so this symposium will also celebrate our anniversary –– and perhaps remind you of past symposia that you enjoyed with friends and colleagues.

In addition to expert speakers, paleo artists will once again bring the past alive with their artwork. We’ll also host a poster session, displays and exhibits from earth science organizations.

Visit this site regularly for updates on the speakers along with other information as we finalize all the details of the  event. But do mark your calendars now in anticipation of learning more about the tools and discoveries over the past decades that make paleontology our collective science of choice!

Check out the details below or go to ‘Registration’  if you’re ready to reserve your space.

About the organizer

The Western Interior Paleontological Society (WIPS) Founders Symposium brings scientists, fossil lovers and artists together every other year. First held in 1999, it was organized to promote the exchange of information and ideas between the avocational and professional paleontological communities. Proceeds from our Founders Symposiums are the primary source of funding for WIPS grants and scholarships programs, which benefit research and education in the field of paleontology.

WIPS is a non-profit 5015(c)(3) organization dedicated to scientific, educational and charitable activities related to paleontology.

Come for the art show too!

The symposium art show and sale features the work of talented area artists who create fossil and natural history-related artwork. This year, a dozen artists will be exhibiting and selling their work. The paleo art show will take place in the lobby of the Green Center.

Free and open to the public during symposium hours. No registration required.

Sponsor the 2025 symposium and help us support paleontology!

The generous support of sponsors is vital to the Founders  Symposium’s success. Sponsorships make it possible for us to bring first-class speakers to Colorado, and to continue to support students and researchers with proceeds from the symposium.
